Description

Scarf, Bandage, Table Cloth, Face Mask, Wild Rags Have Many Uses

If anyone can pull off a scarf, it is Roy Rogers (also known as the King of Cowboys). Wild rags are an accessory, but that does not mean they arent necessary. Our wild rags are made from 100% silk which is warmer in the winter than wool and keeps you cool and clean in the summer. Wild rags are for more than looks. They serve a purpose too. Wild rags are scarfs worn around the neck to keep the elements out, wipe dirt from your face, or set the table at camp.

Let us start with wild rags and their humble beginnings to the highfalutin’ fashion of today. Folks might call them kerchiefs, mascadas, or buckaroo scarves, but ask why they’re called wild rags, and you’ll likely get nothing more than a shrug and a “That’s how it’s always been.”

They started as a simple cowboy solution in the 1880s, while trailing livestock over open country, plumes of the kicked up dirt would make it hard to breathe for riders near the rear of the trail. Their solution? Tucking rags over their noses and mouths, making it easier to breathe. And when those hombres got a hankering for a drink, the fabric was also used to strain silt out of murky rivers as the cattle and horses crossed.
