A Premium Shell Worth Every Penny
The SR3 is a premium 3-layer lightweight shell built to withstand the kind of weather we are used to seeing here in the northwest. Wind, rain, snow, the SR3 is built to keep you dry and comfortable when out doing the kinds of things that get you out of bed in the morning.
We sewed a stuff pocket into the left-hand pocket for packability, taped all the seams, added fully waterproof YKK zips, and a cinchable hood that fits over a helmet. Read our post in The Standard Issue for more info on breathability and waterproofness and why 3-layer shells are superior.
We set out to make a super bomber rain shell that all of our Northwest amigos can afford to buy. We wanted this shell to utilize the best tech in materials and functionality without costing half your paycheck. So we went to Japan and sourced one of the best 3 layer fabrics we could find that is highly breathable, extremely packable, and doesnt make you feel like a clam when its worn next to skin. The other thing we wanted in this shell was the ability for it to be more all-purpose. Most of todays rain shells fit like alpine climbing attire. We wanted it to fit so that you could layer under it in the winter and explore the winter backcountry or be loose enough to fly cast on a bonefish flat in the Bahamas without restricting motion. The hood cinches down on your head and not around your face so that it moves with you which allows you to maintain your peripheral vision. A small rain brim keeps the water off your face. A large oversize front left pocket allows you to fold the jacket in to its pocket with a reversible YKK zipper and it turns in to a small camp pillow or camp football.
